Mission Statement:

Rooted in the belief that all people have the right to live in a setting that safeguards human dignity, Erie DAWN in partnership with area landlords provides safe, affordable, independent, transitional housing for low-income women and children. Advocacy and support services are provided so these women can continue to be productive members of society.

Who We Are

In 1995, the Sisters of Mercy, the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Benedictine Sisters came together to address a critical need in our community – transitional housing for homeless women and children.

Faced with problems like domestic abuse, catastrophic medical bills or loss of employment, these women need time to get back on their feet; yet the length of stay in most emergency shelters is limited to three or four months.

By offering a program of supportive housing, case management, mentoring and advocacy, Erie DAWN helps homeless women transition back into independence by helping them to acquire the tools and resources needed for self-sufficiency.

Since 1995, Erie DAWN has provided services and housing for over 1000 women and children.

Erie DAWN is funded by financial and in-kind contributions from individuals, landlords, businesses, churches, civic organizations, nonprofit organizations and government agencies.

The greatest gift I have received, however, is not monetary; it is knowing that I can do this. I have confidence and empowerment. I have a very rich and full life today. I have a safe and warm place to live. I have great relationships with friends and family.”
